Joyce Gaines has been engaged in the payment processing industry since 1985, when she worked for Preferred Card Services, an ISO for Imperial Bank in Southern California. In 1987 she co-Founded United Merchant Services (UMS) which later became UMS Banking. As a women-owned business UMS Banking ranks as the 7th largest payment firm in California and according to the Nilson Report 64th largest in the United States.

As an often awarded Humanitarian, Joyce has a passion for human rights. She is a commissioner for Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), working actively as an organizer, developing fundraisers, and chairing a yearly celebrity auction.

Joyce continues to develop and implement strategies for the overall growth of UMS.

Lynda Neuman

CFO

Lynda Neuman is also a successful entrepreneur. She is the second Founder/Owner and CFO of UMS Banking. She has vigilantly overseen all aspects of financial management with an eye to the future for expansion and longevity. As a result, Lynda has led the company in continual solvency for 26 years and counting.

Lynda is an avid and accomplished triathlete. She competes year-round in Half-Ironman races and serves on the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Triathlon Club. She received postgraduate education in Business at the Hubbard College of Administration International in Los Angeles, CA and is currently involved in many local charities.

Lynda is the powerhouse who keeps UMS “in the black”!

Karen Brown

Chief Compliance Officer

Karen Brown is a United States Service veteran and brings 25 years of executive management experience to UMS Banking. Her area of expertise and principal functions include developing and implementing policy and procedures, and overseeing all aspects of regulatory compliance and best practice.

In her role as UMS’ Chief Compliance Officer, Karen oversees company compliance to a variety of regulatory and industry compliance requirements such as PCI, BSA, NACHA and Federal and State UDAP (Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts and Practices) statutes.

Karen is consistently active with her Church. She helps with many community organizations including The Way to Happiness Foundation.

Karen keeps UMS and our staff in compliance!

Bruce Ferguson

Bruce Ferguson

EVP National Business Development

Bruce Ferguson, a 21 year veteran and E.V.P. of UMS Banking, specializes in Marketing. His background in Advertising & Marketing was the foundation for the interactive approach UMS shares with its client base.

Bruce serves on multiple industry Boards including California Independent Bankers (a Division of ICBA), is a voting member of the Electronic Transactions Association, and has served on Community Bankers of California, Bankcard Association of So-Cal and Western States Acquirers Association boards. He also maintains UMS Banking’s active membership with Electronic Transactions Association, among others. He also ensures UMS Banking’s representation in many community based programs.

He is a past Toastmaster and current activist, receiving an Honorary Doctorate in 2009 for his International Youth for Human Rights activities in which he ran annual programs in South Asia. On Oct. 10, 2010 Bruce launched his own charitable non-profit (www.FHFInow.org) and participates in funding for a girls school in India, programs in Nepal and Sri Lanka and an educational effort to promote understanding of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights program.

Chris Lake has over 35 years in software development, IT and business management. Her experience includes directing operational aspects from Human Resources, Legal, Manufacturing, Delivery, Accounting, Customer Service and Technical Support.

On the technical side, Chris not only has hands-on software design and programming experience, but manages software development projects and runs our IT departments.

In the 80s, she was one of the key owners of RealWorld corporation. One of the first PC-based accounting software companies in the US. The company was sold to Great Plain Software and ultimately sold to Microsoft.

Chris is an alumna of Franklin Pierce University, NH. She majored in Computer Science and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She’s a staunch supporter of Human Rights, enjoys reading, swimming, tennis, and spending time with her family.

Chris’ understanding of both business and technology brings a rarely found perspective and value to UMS, our partners and customers.
